Prayers For Courage

We have collected some of the best prayers for courage to use in request to God. May these prayers for safety bring you comfort and peace of mind. May these prayers for strength encourage your spirit and strengthen your faith.

Courage (also called bravery or valour) is the choice and willingness to confront agony, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. Physical courage is bravery in the face of physical pain, hardship, death or threat of death, while moral courage is the ability to act rightly in the face of popular opposition, shame, scandal, discouragement, or personal loss.

The classical virtue of fortitude (andreia, fortitudo) is also translated “courage“, but includes the aspects of perseverance and patience.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.  “All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish.  Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all.  For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:10-13)

The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.”—2 Samuel 22:2-4

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.

Amen.

A Prayer to Stop Worrying

Lord, help me not to worry about anything, but to instead, and immediately, pray about everything that concerns me about my children and anything else. I want to experience Your peace that exceeds anything we can understand. As I display that peace, my children will see that I really do trust You with everything and my faith is not just a “talk” but a real-life walk. By praying about what would otherwise concern me, I am teaching my children to go to You in prayer instead of worrying, too. And Lord, help me not to just hide away and pray about what concerns me but to verbally pray aloud, at times, so my children see my default mode is to take it to God in prayer rather than flip out, freak out, or fret.

Prayer to Speak Out

Dear God, I know that silence is not golden when it ought not to exist. To deny praise to a child or to withhold best wishes from someone of whom I am jealous. To keep back from contradicting someone spreading malicious lies. All this creates silence that destroys. Open my lips to speak out when the time is right. Amen

Praying for Courage

My Lord, today I ask for courage. There are things that I face today and, Lord, I need courage to face these trials in my life.

I need the kind of courage you gave Nehemiah that he was able to speak to a king and build a wall, even in the face of opposition.

I pray that when opposition comes my way, you will make me brave. Put the words in my mouth to calm the storm that rises up against me. Even though I may be fearful, I know you are my protector.

Nehemiah 4:4 Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads.

Do not be discouraged

Lord, even when things in my life look dismal as if there is no end, help me to remember that in Deuteronomy 31:8 you said:

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged.”

Even when the devourer may think he has me down, help me to remember who is my redeemer.

Help me to look away from my situation and look to you. Just as Samson remembered where his strength came from, let me remember where my strength comes from!

Judges 16:28 Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please, God, strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.”

A Prayer for Boldness

Fill me with your Holy Spirit, O Lord, and help me that I may keep untarnished the hope of the second advent of Jesus. Persecutions, afflictions, hardships and disappointments are the textbooks of your schoolroom by the side of your psalms of joy, peace, service and triumph.

With your commandments for my redemption you bound your blessings for my glory. Your forgiveness of my sins and your indwelling in me of your Holy Spirit have made me a member of your household.

Grant unto your servant boldness both in prayer and in speech; guide me that I may care to obey you above all the teachings of men, and that I may know out of my own experience that there is no other Name under heaven that is given among men whereby I must be saved but the blessed Name of Jesus, to whom be glory and dominion forever.

Amen.

Help Me To Be An Encouragement To Others

Lord help me to be an encouragement to others in the same way that, You have sent many little encouragements me along the way. There have been times of weariness and times of fear – and times when I have felt ready to give up – but always at the right time there was a short note or a simple call or a little token of Your love for me, which You sent by means of the many people that You have lovingly placed in my life.

Thank You also Lord that You are our God of encouragement – and that we have Your indwelling Holy Spirit to help and to comfort in times of need. Teach me Your way and Your will and help me to always heed the gentle promptings of the Spirit of Comfort within my heart, so that I may not miss an opportunity to be a minister of Your encouragement to others in times of need.

Oh Lord more and more I long to breathe You into my very being and be saturated with Your love and grace – so that I may be equipped to breathe out Your love and joy and help and support and encouragement to all with whom I come in contact.

Show me Lord how I can best be an encouragement to others – and may life point others to You and never to myself – May I decrease as You increase more and more in my life – I pray in Jesus name,

Amen

Prayer For Strength, Courage And Determination

Dearest God, I offer up this prayer to you to give me the strength, courage and determination that is required to be a driver on the road. I have my driver’s license but never had the courage to drive on the roads.

Please help me to go out there and drive so I can be more independent and be of help my mom when she needs to get around. This past week it has been very distressing as I have had to take taxi to and from work in the dark hours of the morning. Please help me to acquire the vehicle and build up the courage to drive.

This prayer I sincerely up to you. It may need a miracle but I believe in miracles. I have depended on others too long and it’s time to change this situation. Amen

For Courage Amid Fear

Lord, all around me and swirling within me there are things that are scary, hard, and painful. When I feel afraid and too small to do the hard things I need or want to do, give me courage.

Like you did with Peter, and so many others, show me where you are and where you want to take me. When you call me out of my places of self-protection, help me trust you fully.

Give me courage to focus on you and not the fear I feel. I am reminded that you will not sink. You will not fall. You love me even when I doubt and am afraid. You offer courage to move ahead anyway. I need to see you reaching out for me and know your solid foundation under me.

In the middle of my stormy fears, show me you are near, and you hear. Amen.

For Courage to Take the Next Step

God, sometimes I tremble and shake from not knowing what to do. Sometimes, it seems as if I’m frozen in time. There are times when it feels as if I’ve tried everything. I’m at a loss for what may be next.

When I cannot see beyond what I see now, remind me that you see more. Give me vision for the things you have for me. Give me willingness to trying something new. If I need to try again something I’ve tried before, give me courage to do so. Help me to rely on you and trust that you will be with me even if I get it wrong.

When the next step feels tremendously big, or far too small, help me take it anyway. If I need assistance to take that step, show me where I can find it.

Sometimes I feel like I cannot move forward. Sometimes I try to take action on my own when I need to rest. Help me to discern what is your best in this moment. If I get it wrong, you will not leave me.

God, I need your guidance. Amen.

Prayer for Courage #7

Joshua 1:9 (NIV): Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

GOD, help us be strong and courageous and not be overcome by evil but help us overcome evil with good. Help us stay focused on Your will; let Your HOLY SPIRIT keep us walking in truth; cast down every false accusation; and let love and unity reign in our relationships. Let us discern these schemes of the adversary who comes to steal, kill, and destroy: Distraction, Deception, Derision, and Division and let us put on the whole armor of GOD, standing our ground against this enemy, destroying his works and taking new ground for Your Kingdom.

Help us be strong in You, LORD, and in the strength of Your might and let us R.E.S.P.O.N.D as one ministering believer instructs: Resisting Satan in JESUS’ name; Escaping with Scripture; Searching for unconfessed sin; Pleading the blood of JESUS; Overtaking ground given to Satan; Naming someone in targeted prayer; and Delighting in the Lord.

LORD, help us remember that GREATER are You in us than he who is in the world and that NO WEAPON formed against us shall prosper and we are MORE THAN CONQUERORS through HIM who loved us. Help us remember that we may be hard-pressed on every side yet we’re not crushed, perplexed but not in despair, persecuted but not forsaken, struck down but not destroyed. Help us remember that You’re our refuge, a very present help in time of trouble, and that You will never leave us or forsake us. And help us remember that You love us with an everlasting love that is faithful and true–an eternal love that keeps no record of wrongs, a love that never fails. LORD, thank You for showing Yourself more than capable of giving us everything needed, including Your only begotton Son and Your HOLY SPIRIT.

Now help us walk in the victory JESUS has already won on the Cross. Help us believe Your WORD, receive Your Son, and accept this TRUTH, that we are saved BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH, that our debt is PAID IN FULL, that our sins are forgiven, that we are the BODY and the BRIDE of CHRIST, and that we are NEW CREATIONS in CHRIST, born of GOD and led by HIS SPIRIT.

Please, help us recognize every area of our lives where sin is in operation, so we can shine the light, love, and truth of JESUS CHRIST on those areas, surrendering everything to HIM. Give us the wisdom and grace to overcome every lie, stronghold, addiction and area of defeat in our lives. Teach us how to be strong in Your mighty power and stand firm in the evil day. LORD, show us how to trust in Your Word, to dwell in Your HOLY SPIRIT, to abide in JESUS as He abides in You, and teach us how to walk as He did and live courageously, not for our glory but for Yours. LORD, let us never give up and never give in; let us never surrender in defeat but always believe in faith that we are VICTORS, not victims, for we are confident in You, LORD, and in how much we need You. In JESUS’ name we pray, Amen.

Prayer for Courage #8

Our God and our Rock, we know that You are our provider. We wait for You to meet us and strengthen us, but waiting can be frustrating and painful. In our waiting, we pray that You would give us the courage we need for the day.

Courage to trust You in our circumstances.

Courage to believe Your Word and Your promises.

Courage to lead our families in confidence and peace.

Courage to believe that You are good. Always.

Courage to be honest and transparent with our friends and family.

Courage to ask for help when we feel weak.

Even though our world puts importance on our individual strength and performance, we know that You love us deeply and that you long to support and sustain us in Your power. Please help each of us to let go of our fears and anxieties for what might happen or for what others think, and strengthen us in the truth that You are with Your people. We pray that Your presence would be near to each one of us and that You would open our eyes to see Your purposes at work.

We are excited to see Your power at work in us, and we are filled with hope that You are with us. We are filled with hope that through Jesus our situation doesn’t define us. In our waiting, remind us of your truth.

You love us.

You are with us.

You are good.

We are Your sons and daughters.

Your strength is unending.

You will never leave us.

We love You and pray that you would meet us exactly where we are. Please give us hope, encouragement, joy and courage. Amen!
