Fasting is the willing abstinence or reduction from some or all food, drink, or both, for a period of time. An absolute fast or dry fasting is normally defined as abstinence from all food and liquid for a defined period. Water fasting refers to abstinence from all food and drink except water, but black coffee and tea may be consumed. Other fasts may be partially restrictive, limiting only particular foods or substances, or be intermittent.

Prayer For Seeking God’s Understanding And Wisdom

Dear Father,

All praise, glory, honor, and adoration be to you, the only one and true living God.

For you are the revealer of all mysteries and the source of all wisdom and understanding. Thank you for knowledge, thank you for understanding, thank you for throwing light into where darkness enshrouds. Lord, we pray for wisdom and understanding to further understand your words so that we can live according to them.

In Jesus name, Amen

Prayer on beginning the fast

Lord you make all things new, the Creator who is continually nurturing, renewing, and developing every aspect of our remarkable universe.

Lord you make all things new. I rest in your creative arms, I dwell in the hope of this renewal, I hope in the strength of your mighty hand.

Lord you make all things new. Take all I am, all I care for, and all I love into your gentle arms. Come to touch and heal, mend and restore, release and minister.

Lord thank you that you make all things new. Thank you that there is always a new start in you. Thank you that today my life is being remade anew.

Amen.

Prayer to Resist Temptation

Behold me, O my God, at Your feet! I do not deserve mercy, but O my Redeemer, the blood with You have shed for me encourages me and obliges me to hope for it. How often I have offended You, repented, and yet have I again fallen into the same sin. O my God, I wish to amend, and in order to be faithful to You, I will place all my confidence in You. I will, whenever I am tempted, instantly have recourse to You. Until now, I have trusted in my own promises and resolutions and have neglected to recommend myself to You in my temptations. This has been the cause of my repeated failures. From this day forward, be You, O Lord, my strength, and this shall I be able to do all things, for “I can do all things in Him who strengthens me.” Amen.

I’m Here With My Heart Open Wide

Fasting is feeling of hunger and thirst

Fasting is feeling of others pain

(a prayer to say while fasting)

I enter this sanctuary of fasting.
I fall at the foot of the cross.
I lean on the truths of the bible.
I burrow in deep to your love.

I wait in the stillness for vision.
I feel the love of your heart beat.
I rest here and lay out my life Lord.
I give you this moment to speak.

I listen intently to sounds all around me.
I breathe and give thanks for my life.
I hear in the distance the sounds of the birds.
I choose to let their song seep deep down inside.

I see the great beauty of sunlight.
I watch as it dances and fades.
I trust in the light that you bring to my soul.
I bask in your goodness, I soak in your ways.

I remember the journey we’ve travelled.
I feel Jesus close at my side.
I hold out my hand, and just let you lead.
I’m so blessed to be here, with you as my guide.

I’m waiting, I’m hoping, I’m watching.
I’m listening, for your gentle hand on my life.
I’m here with my heart open wide.

Fasting Prayers For Christians #2

Prayer for Healthy, Holy Fasting

Father, your Word is full of wisdom and knowledge. I pray that we, as children of God, trust you Lord and humble ourselves before you… seeking you God like never before. I pray for everyone fasting and beginning to fast.

I pray that they are led by you, Father, and not the world. I pray the distractions and temptations will not overcome them during this time. Thank you, Father, for loving us enough to send your Son to die for us. We will be forever grateful. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

—Rebecca Gordon

Prayer for Fasting and Petition

Lord, please forgive us for craving food more than you. Forgive us for craving anything more than you. Lord redirect our hunger. Be our God. Open our eyes to the benefits of fasting. Open our hearts to you like never before. Give us the desire to turn to you with all our hearts, with all our souls, with all our strength. May we no longer live by bread alone but by every word that comes from your mouth Oh LORD. Teach us to fast so that we might hold fast to you. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Prayer To Align with God’s Heart

Lord, I want to get Your Word so deep into my heart that it becomes MY word! I want to see things the way You see them, hear things the way You hear them, and feel things the way You feel them. I want to get so aligned with You that our hearts beat in syncopation together. I thank You that once Your Word gets that deeply rooted in my heart, my spoken words will release rivers of power and authority against the works of the devil that he has designed for my destruction! I thank You that just as Your words created the universe, my spoken words of faith create a change in my atmosphere! I pray this in Jesus’ name!

—Rick Renner

Connecting with the Father

Father, purify my heart, that I would be focused on You and You alone as I surrender to You in me. If I rely on anyone’s approval but Yours, make it obvious so I can turn that part of my life to You again. As I start my “secret” life with You, cultivate our relationship and make it something incredible! Amen.

—Pete Briscoe

Prayer for Strength and Guidance

Lord God Almighty, shaper and ruler of all creatures, we pray for your great mercy, that you guide us towards you, for we cannot find our way. And guide us to your will, to the need of our soul, for we cannot do it ourselves. And make our mind steadfast in your will and aware of our soul’s need.

Strengthen us against the temptations of the devil, and remove from us all lust and every unrighteousness, and shield us against our foes, seen and unseen. Teach us to do your will, that we may inwardly love you before all things with a pure mind. For you are our maker and our redeemer, our help, our comfort, our trust, our hope; praise and glory be to you now and forever. Amen.
