Eschatology

On this page, we have collected articles related to eschatology on our website.

Eschatology is a part of theology concerned with the final events of history or the ultimate destiny of humanity. This concept is commonly referred to as the “end of the world” or “end times“.

Eschatology (discourse about the last things) reflects the quest for an ultimate human purpose on the individual and the cosmic levels. The driving force of seeking answers to such a twofold human purpose is confirmed by the two major themes of eschatological inquiry, namely, life after death and the final stage of the world.

In the context of mysticism, the term refers metaphorically to the end of ordinary reality and to a reunion with the Divine. Many religions treat eschatology as a future event prophesied in sacred texts or in folklore.

The origin of eschatological teachings on the individual level can be traced back to the earliest strata of human existence.
