A mother is the female parent of a child. Mothers are women who inhabit or perform the role of bearing some relation to their children, who may or may not be their biological offspring. Thus, dependent on the context, women can be considered mothers by virtue of having given birth, by raising their child(ren), supplying their ovum for fertilisation, or some combination thereof. Such conditions provide a way of delineating the concept of motherhood, or the state of being a mother.
Life is overwhelming and stressful for single moms. They have play both roles as mother and father. We are providing some prayers for single moms so they can have spiritual relief.
Prayer for a Single Mother
Dear God, she seems to bear the weight of the world on her shoulders, but to carry it more lightly than I think I would. I see her balancing work and home, money and no money, friends who no longer make time to see her, and I send up a prayer for her.
Her old friends have moved on with their lives, and in truth, she doesn’t have much in common with them anymore. She is lonely, loving God. She would like company but doesn’t want to make time for new relationships because her waking hours are already full: she is a mother. She walks when gas is too expensive for the car and forgoes new clothes so her child can have shoes.
This is not how her life started out, but circumstances changed from her life of privilege to this life she embraces so fully. Her life is difficult and she seems so tired much of the time, but I am inspired by the love she has for her child.
Give her the strength to put in long hours each day; the courage to face those who dismiss her with blaming and knowing nods; the ability to maintain her loving life at home; and the deepest knowledge in her heart that you love her.

A Single Parent’s Prayer
Father,
I come before You today broken, yet humbled. Thank You my Lord for another opportunity to serve You; and although my circumstances may be far from ideal right now, they could not be in more perfect hands than Yours. Jesus, You call for all of us who are weary and heavy laden to come before You and that You will give us rest. God, my body and my soul both need rest right now. There are days I feel like nothing is going right; other days I am irritated and stressed beyond what it seems like I can handle; and there are times I wonder how I am ever going to make it on the path You have laid out before me. But then I reflect upon Your promises for my life. You have promised to never leave me nor forsake me; and that every good gift is from above. I believe Jesus has been tried and tempted in every way I have and that I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. And for that today, Lord, I am grateful.
Father, please help me to have a softened heart towards my children’s (father/mother).
Lord please forgive me for when I have acted out towards him/her when I shouldn’t have. God help me to remember that I am just as broken as they are and that Jesus died for him/her the same as He died for me. God I pray you would bless my children’s (father/mother); that you would draw his/her heart towards Yours; and that You would keep him/her safe and healthy. Lord, help me to have an attitude of forgiveness and to show grace even when it is not being reciprocated back to me. Help me to take the high road and to hold fast to that standard to which I have attained.
Lord please bless my children. Help me bring them up in Your Word so that even when they are old they will not depart from it. Please protect them both in the natural and the supernatural. I pray to bind the negative influences of this world over their lives and to release Your promises over them instead. Keep them safe and healthy and allow them to be bold witnesses to their friends for Your sake. Above all, my Lord, please continue to change me from glory to glory so that I may be used in a mighty way for Your purposes. Help me to offer my body as a living and holy sacrifice, walking in a way that is pure in every aspect of my life. For I know my eternity is secured in You and that You will supply my every need. Thank You for everything You have blessed me with.
In Jesus’ Name, amen.

A Prayer for Single Moms on Mother’s Day
Father God, we thank you for each and every woman you have blessed with the privilege of motherhood. We thank you that each single mother is a Godly steward of each of their children, and that they raise them in the ways of the Lord. Father, we pray and ask that You continue to give them grace to walk out being a single parent with kindness and generosity. We pray that each single mother has a relationship with You, and worships You in spirit and truth.
Help each of your precious daughters to remember that although they are parenting alone, You have not left them nor forsaken them. We thank You that You see each of them and love them. Lord, if they are weary, we pray and ask that You send them a Godly sister in Christ to hold up their arms in the battle, just as Aaron did for Moses. Lord, thank you that You care about every big or small thing that concerns them. Place a hedge of protection around each single mother and her children, Father. We thank you that You alone are their Provider. Where there is lack, Father, we pray that be it Your will You bring abundance. We pray and ask these things in your
A Single Mom’s Prayer
Tech. Sgt. Jeanette Wilinski, Air Force Reserve Command Readiness Management Group manning control and special operations assistant NCOIC, is the mother of Elizabeth, Logan and Alexis. As a single mom, she has to find a balance between taking care of the mission and taking care of her children.
Now I lay me down to sleep…except for, I am still awake.
Awake thinking of the many things I meant to do, but couldn’t get done today.
Awake thinking of the things I said that I second guess—
In my mind, I go over these conversations with my child and wonder if something could have been said differently or if perhaps, there was something I might have missed in her words.
Or if perhaps, my strong love came through with each sentence, word and syllable As she lays down to sleep, I pray she doesn’t feel the difference between us and “them:”
As we walk our neighborhood on crisp days, she points to houses and says, “I want us to have our own home.”
As she lays down to sleep, I hope she knows how amazing, creative, smart, strong and bright her light already is.
I sit and hope.
Hope that each day in every way, my child knows I love her.
I sit and hope for the parents who tell me when they hear I am a single mom:
“ I couldn’t do it,”
if they understand that parenting doesn’t come with an optional button.
If these parents know that for most of the times, we don’t choose to be single parents.
We just end up as them.
Now I try again to sleep—
and I can’t.
I’m thinking about the time I was sick this year. A few times.
I’m thinking that I am grateful for health. Grateful for work. Grateful for friends and family.
I ask for continued health. I ask for continued love.
I ask the Lord to keep—
saving my sanity.
That I remain the sane, strong and stable woman who wakes up, clocks in and checks in with her child each day.
That bills are paid— especially the medical and legal bills— and that like today, tomorrow I am still employed.
I ask the Lord to keep—
me happy.
Because a happy single mom makes for a happy child.
I ask the Lord to keep her happy.
To let her have every opportunity even if sometimes, the money is not enough.
I ask the Lord to bring her
someone she and I can trust, rely on and care for.
Someone she can call, “Stepdad.”
Someone I can call lover but most importantly,
Friend.
I ask for angels or good vibrations to watch me as each morning, I hustle through the morning routine.
Her to school, me to work.
Did I rush too much? Did I get in enough hugs?
Did I remember to pack everything for school?
I ask for guidance to know what to do, say and choose…
for me and for her.
For us.
I ask for guidance to pay those student loans, health insurance, medical bills, legal bills, rent, utilities and the list expands until I am almost at rest.
Almost.
Until I remember that I had a great idea and need to write it down, and in my moment of “alone time,” I know if I don’t write it…I will forget it.
I ask for the people like friends and family to know how much I appreciate the help and love.
Even though asking for help sometimes literally kills parts of me.
I ask for the people who have helped to know that one day,
I will help them.
When I can.
I ask for people who make that sorry face when they hear I’m not married,
to not make that sorry face anymore.
To be happy I am happy, and to hope that some day I can say— I found that right guy.
Hopefully a long time before I am buried in the ground.
I ask for more opportunities for my career, for my girl.
That no stone is left unturned.
Now I lay me down to sleep, a single mom, a tired mom and wake another day.
Just as strong. Just as bright.
Just as loved.
Both of us.
Together.
Amen.

Intercessory Prayer of A Single Parent
Divine Jesus, Your loving Heart is full of love, full of grace, full of forgiveness, full of understanding, full of mercy, and full of compassion. In Your infinite wisdom, You know me in and out and there is nothing about me that is hidden from Your sight. I am a single parent in need of Your help.
At the beginning, God created them male and female and willed that a man should leave father and mother and cling to his wife so that both of them can join together to raise the children that You bless them with. But things happened and I am now left to be both father and mother to the children You gave us. I am not able to do everything a father and mother should do for these children (this child) but You are able. I do not know how to supply all their necessities in this life but You do. I cannot give them all that they need to develop to their fullest capacity but You can. I am not able to be with them everywhere in order to protect them always but You are.
In the Name of Jesus Christ Your Son, I take authority and declare that it shall be well with me and my children. I confirm them in the Blood of Jesus Christ and surrender them to Your loving care, to Your divine protection, to Your divine provision, to Your divine guidance, and to Your divine purpose. Order their steps, Father, and defend them against every evil and dominion of darkness, every hatred and act of wickedness, every diabolic mechanism and act of occultism designed to harm them, every form of evil sacrifice offered or proffered with their name, and from every being, be it human or spiritual, that works to retard their progress, frustrate their future, pollute their anointing, stultify their growth, or truncate their blessing.
Surround their being with Your Divine presence so that Your Spirit may be present in every heart that reaches out to them, in every mind that thinks of them, in every mouth that speaks of them, in every eye that sees them, in every ear that hears about them, in every act that is directed toward them, and in every decision that is made about them.
By Your Divine imposition, I speak into their being the spirit of Daniel, the spirit of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego so that their love for You may surpass their love for anything else. As their parent, I claim for them, and impose upon them, the endowment of Your Spirit of Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Might, Fortitude, Piety, and the Fear of Your Name! Father, let my children/child always know You, love You, honor You, and serve You as their God.
Almighty God, Your Word says, “Hear, O children, a father’s instruction, be attentive, that you may gain understanding!” (Proverb 4:1). I pray You then, to give my children the heart of obedience to my guidance and respect for me as their parent. May they be good natured, socially graceful, spiritually gracious and morally disciplined so that they may do all things to the glory of Your Name!
Gracious Father, I declare in faith and in the Name of Jesus Christ that their lives are filled with purpose and that their purpose is driven by the Holy Spirit so that they may become all that they must, and all that You have created them to be.
Since the glory of children is their parentage, I submit myself unto Your authority and guidance so that You, Oh God, will always be the remedy for my incompetence, the satisfaction for my deficiencies, the efficacy of my guidance, the wisdom in my actions and decisions, the purpose in my corrections, and the strength in my efforts.
Be their guide in every way, their protector and safe refuge and the supplier of their needs. May they be good natured so as to be respectful of others, compassionate to the needs of those who suffer, and humble in their ways as they do all things to the glory of Your Name!
I thank You, Father Adonai, for having heard me! I thank You for Your faithfulness and love! I thank You for Your infinite mercy and compassion. To You, Oh Father Almighty, Son, and the Holy Spirit be praise and glory for ever and ever, Amen! (Pray the “Our Father”)
