Blessing of A Bedroom

Blessing is a proclamation that invokes the abiding, loving and sustaining presence of God upon a person, place or thing for flourishing according to God’s purpose and design.

Bless This Bedroom

Bless this bedroom, Lord, so that all who live in it may remain firm in Your peace and persevere in Your will. May they live a long life and have children for many days to come. Amen.

Bedroom Blessing

I bless you doorway to this bedroom as the gate of security of this room
Bed, I bless you with serenity and peace
I bless you as a place of dreams and the Presence of our God
I bless you with the blessings of rest and refreshment
I bless you bed, as a gentle invitation to slumber and sleep, to regenerate
Bedroom, I bless you with quietness
I bless you to be a haven that angels watch over
I bless you as a private place, leaving all the cares of the day at the gate
I bless you as the place where we awake, fresh and alive to begin each day
I bless you as a place of beauty
I do this blessing in the Name of Jesus, Who neither slumbers nor sleeps
But gives to us, as His beloved even in our sleep

For The Bedroom of a Single Person

Peace be here in the name of the King of life;
The peace of Christ above all peace,
The Lord’s blessing over you.

May God the Father be the guardian of this place
And bring His peace,
That fear may find no entry here.
May Christ be a chosen companion and friend.
May loneliness be banished.
May the Spirit bring lightness and laughter,
And be the comforter of tears.
Courage be at each going out;
Rest be present at each return;
Each day, each night,
Each going out and each returning.

A CATHOLIC/CHRISTIAN ORDER OF THE BLESSING OF ROOMS

Minister:  In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit!

Resident(s): Amen!

Minister:  God’s peace be with you and with all who enter this room.

Residents: And with your spirit.

Minister:  When Jesus took flesh through the Virgin Mary, he made his home with us.  Let us now pray that he will enter this room and bless it with his presence.  May he always be here among you, nurturing your heart(s) through your prayer and friendships, helping you to nurture your mind(s) through diligent study, comforting you in your sorrows and struggles and filling your heart(s) with the joy of the assurance that you are always loved.  We ask all of this through Christ our Lord.

Residents:  Amen!

Minister:  Now let us listen to the Word of the Lord.

Resident:  “Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, were a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.  She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying.  But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked. ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.’ But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha you are worried and distracted by many things, there is need for only one thing.  Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Minister:  Lord, be close to your servant(s) _____________ & _____________, who dwell in this room.  May its walls be for them a reminder of the safety and security that comes from you!  May its windows be for them a reminder that you see into their souls and understand their every need!  May its door remind them that you always are standing at the door of their hearts waiting to be welcomed in and strengthen and help them with the abundance of your love!

Residents:  Amen!

(For Catholics and other Christians who are comfortable invoking the prayers of the saints.)

Minister:  Through the intercession of St. Andre Bessette, of the Congregation of Holy Cross, may God help you to graciously welcome all who visit this room.

Resident:  Amen

A BLESSING OF ROOMS

Minister:  God’s peace be with you and with all who enter this room.

Residents: And also with you!

Minister:   Now let us listen to a traditional Irish blessing.

Resident:

May our room be bright with cheer,
May our cares all disappear,
May contentment come our way,
and may laughter fill our day.

Wishing us always—
Walls for the wind
and a roof for the rain
Laughter to cheer us
and those we love near us—
and all that our hearts might desire!

May we have warm words
on a cold evening,
A full moon on a dark night,
and the road downhill
all the way to our door.

Minister:  Loving God, be close to your servant(s) _____________ & _____________, who dwell in this room.  May its walls be for them a reminder of the safety and security that comes from you!  May its windows be for them a reminder that you see into their souls and understand their every need!  May its door remind them that you always are standing at the door of their hearts waiting to be welcomed in and to strengthen and help them with the abundance of your love!

Residents:  Amen!

Minister: May the fullness of peace and joy embrace all that live in and visit this room.  May good conversation, hearty laughter, diligent student and restful sleep embrace those who dwell here!

Resident:  Amen!

Prayer of Blessing

Lord,

We have prepared a place for you here.

Be with all of us who will live in this dorm room this semester,

We ask for your presence and your blessing.

Shelter us when we are at home,

Walk with us when we are away,

And welcome every guest with us.

And, when our life’s journey is done,

May we dwell with you in the place you have prepared for us in God’s House,

Where you live forever and ever.

Amen.
