Prayers of Thanksgiving

Page Contents

Thanksgiving is recognized by contentment, thrift, consent and gratitude, while unthankfulness by greed, waste, ingratitude and consuming without distinguishing between the lawful and unlawful.

Indeed, greed, besides being unthankfulness, is both a cause of depravity and a means of humiliation. It might even be said that the ant, that blessed animal having a social life, is trodden under foot because of greed. For it tries to collect thousands of grains without contentment when a few might suffice it. The bee, on the other hand, flies over heads due to – so to speak – its contentment, and offers, by God’s command, its honey to human beings.” — Bediuzzaman Said Nursi

“Providence is something deserving love. While this love is elevated, through thanksgiving, to the rank of a sublime, permanent love, love of God, the love of heedless and misguided people for providence is of animal kind and nature. Consider, then, how great a loss the people of misguidance and heedlessness are in!” — Bediuzzaman Said Nursi

Thank You for Special Moments

Thank you, dear God
for each new day.
You are with me always
every single moment of every day.
You always think of me.
Sometimes I think of you
and other times I don’t.
Sometimes I kneel down and talk to you
and other times I just know you’re there.
Do you know why, God?
Because there are special moments
when you come close to me
when I feel safe, happy, excited-
Even times when I feel sad, lonely or scared.
And I lift my heart and mind to you.
These are my moments with you.
I can share them with you.
You are with me now.
Today.

A Prayer for a Thankful Heart

Jesus, I want to be like You who obeyed the Father without complaint. You embraced the chains of humanity when You walked this earth. Convict me whenever I complain or compare myself with others. Give me Your attitude of humility and thankful acceptance. I want to be like the Apostle Paul who learned contentment in every circumstance. I choose to continually offer You a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that give praise to Your name (Hebrews 13:15). I long to bring a smile to Your face. Teach me the power of a thankful heart. I know that Your truth dwells in a thankful heart.

Prayers of ThanksgivingTo be Grateful

Lord God, may we be grateful for our lot,
and compassionate toward all those who are
suffering every kind of distress at this
difficult time.

May we hold back nothing, and
hasten to be the ministers of prayer and mercy,
like the disciples of Him who went about doing
good in times of need.
Amen

A Prayer of Thankfulness for Times of Struggle

God,

Sometimes life gets me down and I find it hard to see things to be thankful for. Open my eyes to see the gifts you’ve given me in my life. I’m going to start by thanking you for loving me enough to come to earth and die so we can live together forever.

Amen.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thess. 5:18

thanksA Prayer Of Thanks

Lord I come before You, desiring to provide thanks.
Father, I have so much to be thankful for, things unseen and seen,
that You have done in my life.

Lord, mostly I am thankful for the relationship that I have with You.
Lord, You initiated this relationship, by what Your Son endeavored to accomplish,
paying the price for my sin, redeeming and reconciling me.

Dear Heavenly Father, You know the times I have been ungrateful, held ill thoughts toward You and my fellow humans. You know the times I complain and grumble about life and its circumstances, about suffering, going through what seem endless trials and tribulations. Even yielding my members to unholy deeds.

Yet God You are and always will be there with me, even when it seems like I am forever in the wilderness, running further and further from You, You, my God are there guiding me back to Your loving arms.

I am thankful Lord for everything that You allow to cross my path. Thankful for the decisions that You allow me to make and the lessons that come from these decisions.

I’m thankful, Lord, that I do not have to live under condemnation anymore, that You have truly set me free, that I am a new creation that I need not live under the law anymore. Thankful Lord that You have given me joy unspeakable. Thankful Lord that You are longsuffering, allowing me to mature in You!

Lord, words do not express my thankfulness. For Your mighty power is at work in me, transforming me, renewing my mind. To You Lord belong thanks eternal.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

These prayers of thanks are based on Romans 8, Galatians 5:1, and Philippians 1:6.

A Prayer Of Thanks

Lord, there are marvelous things that I do not know, nor can I comprehend.
Lord, things that happen in my life, and things that happen in my friends lives.
Lord, I desire to be thankful, to appreciate everything that comes across my path.
Lord, so often life hurts, I get angry — upset, I do not understand, yet Lord You ask me to be thankful for everything, and have faith – thank You.

Lord, help me to be thankful, when the rains come on the just and the unjust, that You care so much about me, that Your to chasten, to build character and godliness in me, to be a mirrored reflection of Your Son to reach others.

Lord, I thank You for mercy, for the hunger for righteousness, for forgiveness, for purity, for providing for my needs.

Lord, I thank You for prayer, That I can come before You and call You Father.
That I can cast my burdens on You.
Lord, I thank You for my heart, the treasure and light You placed in there — the Holy Spirit.

Lord, help me to endeavor, to be thankful for everything.
Lord, it seems most of the time, what happens is about me.
Lord, I thank you that You gently remind me that the things are not about me, however, my life and what happens is more about You, Your will, and Your Kingdom.

Lord, I thank You, I praise You. Lord, in You do I find strength and courage to go on.
Lord, I thank You for the author and finisher of my faith – Jesus Christ and that in You is hope everlasting.

Lord, I thank You for the blood of Jesus, Your precious lamb.
Thank You Lord God!

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Uplifting Prayer of Thanksgiving

1 Chronicles 16:34 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Heavenly Father, I humbly come before Your throne of grace and mercy in prayer today, not to ask of anything but to simply give you all the thanks, praise, honor and glory You deserve.

Although the oceans rise and the thunders are roaring,  I chose to thank You in the midst of my storms, for there is a lot to be grateful for, each and everyday.

Prayers To God the Creator

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! (Psalm 8)

Five orange pumpkins sit in a row in front of a distressed, wooden background.Prayers To God who Forgives all Transgressions

Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth.  I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers.  I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked. I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O Lord: That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works. Lord, I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honour dwelleth. (Psalms 26:2-8)

Prayers To God who Deserves all Glory and Praise

O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.  For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker. (Psalms 95:1-6)

Prayers To God — the Lord of All

O Lord, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds. I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people. (Psalms 116:16-18)

Thanks for Cleansing me

Psalm 116:17 I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.

Jonah 2:9 But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving. I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

Thank You for waking me up on this glorious morning.  I give you thanks for giving me, my family and loved ones, health and strength. Oh Lord, thanks for that unconditional, undying, never-failing, endless love that graces me each day. For love came down and saved me on the cross, in the form of flesh and for that I are eternally grateful.

Thank You Father, for cleansing me of sin. Though the past may try to haunt me, I know and proclaim I am saved, I am healed and I am delivered.

A Mother’s Prayer of Thanksgiving & Praise

… My heart rejoiceth in the Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength. They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble. The Lord killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and he hath set the world upon them. He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the Lord shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

Hannah’s prayer from 1 Samuel 2:1-10

A King’s Prayer of Praise & Adoration:

… Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.  Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.  Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.

King David’s prayer from 1 Chronicles 29:10-13

A Thanksgiving Prayer for the Queen

God of time and eternity,
Whose son reigns as servant, not master;
We give you thanks and praise
That you have blessed this nation,
The realms and territories with Elizabeth,
Our beloved and glorious Queen.

In this year of Jubilee,
Grant her your gifts of love and joy and peace
As she continues in faithful obedience to you,
Her Lord and God,
And in devoted service to her land and people,
And those of the Commonwealth.
Now and all the days;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

The Diamond Jubilee Prayer, written at the Queen’s direction by the chapter of St Paul’s Cathedral

A President’s Prayer of Thanksgiving & Praise

Most gracious Lord God, from whom proceedeth every good and perfect gift, I offer to Thy Divine Majesty my unfeigned praise and thanksgiving, for all Thy mercies toward me. Thou made me at first and hast ever since sustained the work of Thine own hand. Thou gave Thy Son to die for me, and hast given me assurance of salvation upon my repentance and sincerely endeavoring to conform my life to His holy precepts and example. Thou art pleased to lengthen out to me the time of repentance and to move me to it by Thy Spirit and by Thy Word, and by Thy mercies and by Thy judgments. Amen.

George Washington

Prayer of Thanksgiving

O Thou whose bounty fills my cup,
With every blessing meet!
I give Thee thanks for every drop—
The bitter and the sweet.

I praise Thee for the desert road,
And for the riverside;
For all Thy goodness hath bestowed,
And all Thy grace denied.

I thank Thee for both smile and frown,
And for the gain and loss;
I praise Thee for the future crown
And for the present cross.

I thank Thee for both wings of love
Which stirred my worldly nest;
And for the stormy clouds which drove
Me, trembling, to Thy breast.

I bless Thee for the glad increase,
And for the waning joy;
And for this strange, this settled peace
Which nothing can destroy.

Prayers of ThanksgivingThanksgiving & Praise in a Song

Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done, in Whom this world rejoices;
Who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.

O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us,
With ever joyful hearts and blessèd peace to cheer us;
And keep us in His grace, and guide us when perplexed;
And free us from all ills, in this world and the next!

All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given;
The Son and Him Who reigns with Them in highest Heaven;
The one eternal God, whom earth and Heaven adore;
For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.

Martin Rinkart & Catherine Winkworth

Dear heavenly Father, how I thank and praise You for my parents who have been so faithful in loving and caring for me with such selflessness. I am so grateful that I was their child and that You saw fit for me to become part of their family.

I know that so often I have taken them for granted and have not been as helpful as I should, but their constant love and support throughout my life has become such a wonderful example of parenthood and I am so grateful for them both.

Draw close to them I pray and surround them with Your loving arms. Bless them with both health and contentment and be to them a tower of strength, as the both are getting a little older. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is right.” (Ephesians 6:1)

Prayer Of Gratitude For Teachers

Dear Lord, as I look back over the years, I want to thank You for the many teachers that You placed in my path and for the wonderful ways that so many of the, have influenced me for good, down through the pages of my life.

Thank You for the way that some have equipped me to look at life and encouraged me to reach out to fulfil the potential that was within and have enabled my hidden gifts and talents to blossom and flourish for the benefit of others and to Your glory.

Thank You for those that helped me to focus on the task at hand even when it seemed tedious, knowing that I have been enabled to achieve goals that appeared to be beyond my grasp and achieve objectives that seemed out of reach.

Thank You for the teachers that taught me compassion and brought me into a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and thank You for those, that led me deeper into the Christian life and even corrected me when I started to err from the truth.

I pray that You would use me to be a teacher and an encouragement to others whom You  may place in my path and may I faithfully fulfil Your commandment to love as Christ loved us, and to offer my life to You as a sacrifice of thanksgiving and praise – this I ask in Jesus name, Amen

Prayer Of Gratitude For the Church Family

Lord Jesus I am so grateful to You for the church family You have given me and for the love and encouragement that I receive from each member.

I bless and thank You that we are all members of Your body and that we are all there to support each other in times of sorrow and joy as well as those seasons of sickness and health. How wonderful it is to know that we are all one in Christ and have that unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace and love.

We lift up the wider church family and pray that You would meet each one in their own particular time of need. We especially bring before You our brothers and sisters in Christ that have been rejected by their own family members due to their faith in the Lord Jesus and how grateful we are that the arms of love within the body of Christ stretch out to the four corners of the world.

Keep us all we pray in a bond of unity and may Christ be lifted up in the heart of each one – this we ask in Jesus name, Amen

“Let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:16)

Prayer Of Gratitude For Volunteers

Father we offer our grateful thanks and praise for the army of volunteers that quietly yet faithfully offer their services for the well being and support of others.

We ask Your special blessing on each one, knowing that they are the unsung heroes that receive little thanks for their valuable contribution and who are so often taken for granted by those that they freely serve.

Provide for the needs of each one and protect them from those that might intentionally or unwittingly exploit their generous nature – this we ask in Jesus name, Amen

Parent’s Prayer Of Gratitude on Graduation Day

Heavenly Father, the past few years seem to have sped by and here we are preparing for the graduation of our precious child.. who not so long ago was a helpless babe in our arms.

Thank You for this child that You gave us to care for and nurture and as they face the unknown future we pray that You would draw very close to them and lead and guide in the days that lie ahead.

Our own hearts are a mixture of contrasting emotions: – pride in their achievement and concern for their future well-being. But we do pray that this graduation ceremony would be a special time of celebration and that nothing would mar the joy and excited anticipation we are feeling.. despite the inevitable tinges of apprehension.

As our child reaches this important milestone in their life we ask for Your continued presence to lead and to guide in all things.. and as they step out into the unknown world of new responsibilities and life-challenges, we finally hand them completely over into Your safe-keeping and ask that Your presence will accompany them and that they continue to grow in grace and draw ever closer to You with each passing day – this we ask in Jesus name

Amen
