Hope is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes with respect to events and circumstances in one’s life or the world at large. As a verb, its definitions include: “expect with confidence” and “to cherish a desire with anticipation.” Among its opposites are dejection, hopelessness, and despair.

Hope is what gives us a reason to continue in life and if you believe in God, you are never without it. Hope is something that He can provide, ensuring that you are always strong and with a reason to follow Him.

A Prayer of Hope #1

“O God, awaken and sustain my hope in you. Be my treasure now. And be my inheritance always. Please open the eyes of my heart to see the wonder that you are. Grant me the spiritual taste buds to taste and see and savor that all you are for us in Jesus is better than all the world. And so sustain my hope. And may this hope sustain my joy in tribulation and may this joy sustain my endurance and may this endurance sustain my love for people, and may my love make you irresistibly attractive to the world.”

A Prayer of Hope #2

Lord send me hope. There are times when I feel helpless and weak. I want a better future and life but I can’t see it. I need love and kindness.

The sky is at its darkest just before the light. I pray that this is true, for all seems dark. I need your light, Lord, in every way.

I pray to be filled with your light from head to toe. To bask in your glory. To know that all is right in the world, as you have planned, and as you want it to be. Amen.

A Prayer of Hope #3

Lord Jesus,
Hope overcomes
Hope heals
Hope restores
Hope inspires
Hope conquers
Hope frees
Hope is your gift to the world
Thank you
Amen.

A Prayer of Hope #4

There are Christians
Who have hysterical reactions
As if the world had slipped out of God’s hands.
They are violent
As if they were risking everything.

But we believe in history.
The world is not a roll of the dice
On its way toward chaos.
A new world has begun to happen
Since Christ has risen?

Jesus Christ,
We rejoice in your definitive triumph
With our bodies still in the breach,
Our souls in tension;
We cry our first “Hurrah!”
Till eternity unfolds itself.

Your sorrow now has passed.
Your enemies have failed.
You are the definitive smile for humankind.

What matter the wait now for us?
We accept the struggle and the death,
Because you, our love, will not die!

We march behind you on the road to the future.
You are with us. You are our immortality?

Take away the sadness from our faces;
We are not in a game of chance?
You have the last word!

Beyond the crushing of our bones,
Now has begun the eternal “Alleluia!”
From the thousands of openings
In our wounded bodies and souls,
There now arises a triumphal song!

So teach us to give voice
To your new life throughout the world,
Because you dry the tears of the oppressed forever?
And death will disappear

Prayer of Hope

A Prayer of Hope #5

Dear heavenly Father, thank you for revealing yourself as the God of hope—the one who intends our hope to abound; who promises our hope will never be cut off; the God who is our hope. We praise, bless and adore you.

Because the gospel is true, we live by hope, not by hype; by having faith in you, not by having faith in our vacillating faith; by collapsing on Christ, not by pulling ourselves up by our spiritual bootstraps. It is your righteous right hand that upholds us, not our sweaty-palmed, tired-fingered grasp of you.

We come boldly to your throne of grace today, bringing with us some of our challenging stories into the storehouse of your goodness and faithfulness.

Father, for our children who have yet to find their peace, rest, and home in Jesus, we declare our hope is in you—not in our parenting skills, our “getting it right”, our groveling over past mistakes, or our anything.

Father, for our marriages, which need refreshment, reconnection, and renewal, we declare our hope is in you—not in our spouses changing, some “magic bullet” marriage conference, or finding the “perfect” counselor.

Father, for our own brokenness and weaknesses, we declare our hope is in you—not in our multiplied resolutions, certainly not in beating ourselves up, not in our doing more and trying harder.

Our hope is built on Jesus’ blood and righteousness. Our hope is in your steadfast love. Our hope is your commitment to Father us, pursue us, change us, and bring to completion your good work in us. And this hope will not disappoint us, or put us to shame (Rom. 5:5). Hallelujah, many times over. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ wonderful and merciful name.

A Prayer of Hope #6

Heavenly father, I am your humble servant,
I come before you today in need of hope.
There are times when I fell helpless,
There are times when I feel weak.
I pray for hope.
I need hope for a better future.
I need hope for a better life.
I need hope for love and kindness.

Some say that the sky is at it’s
darkest just before the light.
I pray that this is true, for all seems dark.
I need your light, Lord, in every way.

I pray to be filled with your light from
head to toe. To bask in your glory.
To know that all is right in the world,
as you have planned, and as you want
it to be.

Help me to walk in your light, and live
my life in faith and glory.

In your name I pray, Amen.

A Prayer of Hope #7

Lord, help me to hear you saying, “I am your hope” over all the other voices. Lord, your word says, you are the hope for hopeless so I’m running to you with both hands stretched out and grabbing on to you. Fill me up with hope and give me a tangible reminder today that hope is an unbreakable spiritual lifeline (Hebrews 6:19-20). God, you know those things in my heart that I barely dare to hope for, today I give them to you, I trust them to you, and ask that you because I know that you can do more than I could ever guess, imagine or request in wildest dreams (Eph 3:20). God, you are my hope and I trust you. Amen.

A Prayer of Hope #8

O Lord, we stand before You, your humble servants, broken and in need of Your love. You are the God of Hope and of all things good and we pray that you lift ________ up in your arms right now, dear God and give him/her the hope he/she needs. Amen.

A Prayer of Hope #9

Our loving Father, my life and situation are not hidden from Your eyes. You know me even before I was formed in my mother’s womb. I ask You to give me hope and assurance that You are here with me now guiding me in every step I take. I surrender to You now all the problems and challenges I have been bearing in my shoulders for a long time. I release to You all the false burdens in my body, soul, and spirit and ask that You cleanse me with the blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ. I resign from taking control over my life and I submit to You full ownership and control henceforth. I have been running my life the way I want to and failed to invite You to be the divine ruler over all areas of my life. I place in Your altar all these things that have been giving me weakness, defeat, failure, lack, and hopelessness. Revive me once again to hope, trust, love, and be joyful and peaceful once again and to rest in Your love, presence and glory. I choose to hope and I choose life and You. I believe that You can best solve all these worries, anxieties, problems, and pains without my help. Take charge, take over, take control, take care of me. I love You, Lord with my entire being. Show me the way out of my despair.  I put all of my trust in You.  Fulfill your word and your promise to me that those who Hope in the Lord shall mount up with wings like an eagle, they shall renew their strength they shall run and not be weary , they shall walk and not be faint. In Jesus  name. Amen.

Prayer for faith and hope to begin

Dear God,
Where does my hope begin?
When days are dark and lost
Could hope rise up with the dawn
As colour fills my heart?
Do birds that sing sweet song
Somehow know the truth?
Is their chorus melody
Leading us to you?

Dear Father,
Where does hope come from?
When I can not face the day.
Could hope fill each new morning
Pushing out the grey?
Do the family and friends I have
Fill up my heart with joy?
And the miracle of life itself
Speak through each new girl and boy?

Dear Lord,
Where does my hope come from?
When I wait on you.
Yes, hope flies in with wings of truth
And changes life anew.
For love has risen up with Christ,
It reigns for all to see.
And more than this I know your life
And Spirit work through me.

Prayer of Faith

Lord, You provide us with perfect love at all times and have given us everything we need. We pray that you increase our faith and help us through the rocky times. Give us the strength to face these obstacles and let the difficult days strengthen our faith until we rely only on You, Lord. Amen.

Prayers of Hope

Dear God,

You remind us over and over in your Word that you are always with us. You tell us not to fear and you draw us close into your Presence. You’re the only place we find refuge in the storms that surround us right now Lord. You’re the only place we can find peace and strength. So we ask you for your words of truth and power to strengthen us in our inner being and life our hearts to you. Thank you for your goodness, thank you that you know the way we take and you have a plan. We look to you today our Lord and Savior, it’s your face we seek.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” Psalm 46:1-2

***

Thank you Lord for your word that says you give us the power to come out of this trial “as gold.” Thank you that this storm will not last forever, but we’re only passing through. Thank you that nothing has taken you by surprise. You know our journey better than we know it ourselves, and you will use this time of testing for good.

“But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.” Job 23:10

***

Thank you Lord that you are Victorious over every trouble and obstacle. Thank you that you have overcome sin, and death, and any evil that we may face today. And because of you, we too are overcomers. We too can have victory, and we can walk strong in your peace.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

***

Thank you Lord that you are our Redeemer and will not waste our pain. Thank you that we can be assured all things, not some things but all, will work together for good, for those who love you and are called according to your purpose.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

***

Thank you Lord that You are producing in us great endurance through the hard places. You are building spiritual muscle. We press in close to your Presence today, and no matter what obstacles we’re facing, we choose joy.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” James 1:2-3

***

Lord, thank you that our comfort abounds through Christ. Nothing in the world can bring us the comfort and peace that you alone can offer. Thank you that you understand our trials, and you care. Through our own struggle and pain, help us to be your vessels to offer comfort and strength to others who are hurting.

“…Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.” 2 Corinthians 1:4-5

***

Thank you Lord that through every weakness and hard place, your strength is displayed in our lives. We can’t do it on our own. But you can, through us. Your power is Mighty within us, you are our Helper and our Strength. All things are possible through you.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

***

Lord thank you that through this trial you are using our lives and circumstances to make a mark on this world. Draw us close to yourself. May many know of your Great Name. May they hear of your works and miracles of your faithfulness. We choose again today to fix our eyes, not on all the troubles that surround, but on you alone.

“Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

***

We praise you God, for you go before us and cover us from behind. You walk beside us and make our footsteps firm. You are our Protector and Defense. We never have to fear that we’re alone, thank you for your powerful Presence surrounding us. We renew our focus on You this day, and thank you advance for all that you will do.

“…for the LORD will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” Isaiah 52:12

***

We love you, we need you, we choose to look to you today, and every day…

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen.

Prayer of Love

Our Father in Heaven, we pray to you as your servants, asking for an outpouring of love on this person/group. They have been faithful and follow you, Lord, but they are in need of Your heavenly love. Show them how strong You are and how powerful. Shower them with your love and blessings and let them never doubt again that they are truly loved in the Kingdom of God. In You we trust, Amen.

A Prayer for When Things Seem Hopeless & Chaotic

Jesus, some days my world seems to be spinning out of control. Everywhere I look, I see chaos—even in my own life. There are days where I long to just throw in the towel and say, “Enough.” Where can I turn? Who can I talk to?

You’re the only one I know who will truly listen, Lord. And I know you have the answers. But I can’t seem to find them. I long to see a little clearing in this tunnel. I need a little hope, Jesus. Your Word tells me I can come to you for that hope and that you won’t disappoint, that your load is easy and your burden light.

Give me a new perspective, Lord, and blow away the cobwebs that keep cluttering my mind and my vision. Every time I’m tempted to become discouraged or depressed because of negative events or situations, help me turn my eyes on you. Help me to remember all the times you’ve been there for me, and all the ways you have brought me through difficult times. I forget to thank you sometimes, but I am so grateful for your faithfulness.

When things look hopeless, I will hope in you. You died to give us hope, not only eternally, so we could live forever with you, forgiven and free. But you also provide a way daily for us to live above the cares of this world. Thank you for reminding me of that in your Word. Your spirit lives in us—in me—as your child and follower. Sometimes I forget that!

Thank you for understanding me and loving me, just as I am. And thank you for accepting me even when I was a hopeless case—just as we all were at one time. Perfect people in a perfect world would have no need of your gift of hope. With my eyes on you, I want to see life as you see it. I don’t want to waste time being negative or withdrawn from others, focusing only on what can’t be or what might never change. Teach me how to find contentment even if my circumstances remain the same. With your perspective, I can push past the impossible and find the strength and courage to believe that no matter what happens, your hope will lift me to a higher plane—where joy and purpose reign again.

In Your precious name that is above all names and all this mess, Amen.
