“Our thoughts have power and can easily begin to run our lives, controlling our words and actions, feelings and emotions — even our peace and happiness. When disappointment crushes our dreams, when people hurt or anger us, or when problems seem overwhelming, it’s easy to get caught in the rip-current of negative thoughts. And when we think negative thoughts, we feel negative feelings, leading to believing life is negative overall.” — Tracie Miles

Prayer Against Bad Thoughts #1

Dear loving God,
Sometimes I have terrible thoughts that run through my head.
Do you see me, dear Lord? Do you see my struggle?
You are mighty. You are strong, and you love me.

Set me free Lord!
Remove the bad thoughts that torment me.
Cast the enemy out of my mind and my life. Let no attack, deceit or contamination affect me any more.
For I have been washed clean by the blood of the Lamb.
Your mighty Spirit protects me always.

All victory is yours alone.

Dear loving Lord, clear my mind, bring rest to my heart with the sweet caress of your loving grace.
In Jesus’ holy name,
Amen.

Prayer Against Bad Thoughts #2

O Lord my God, be not far from me. O my God, hasten to help me, for varied thoughts and great fears have risen up within me, afflicting my soul. How shall I escape them unharmed? How shall I dispel them?

“I will go before you,” says the Lord, “and will humble the great ones of earth. I will open the doors of the prison, and will reveal to you hidden secrets.”

Do as You say, Lord, and let all evil thoughts fly from Your face. This is my hope and my only comfort — to fly to You in all tribulation, to confide in You, and to call on You from the depths of my heart and to await patiently for Your consolation. Amen

I pray that you are watching me closely on my journeys throughout the day and blanketing me with your security and endless love. I pray that you give me direction in the career path that you have already chosen for me.

Though, most of all, I pray that you never leave me because these thoughts are truly scaring me. Amen!

Precious Holy Spirit, our inclination toward sin does not start in the world, but our inmost being. Adultery begins with our lust. Murder begins with our desire to kill. Eradicate all sinful thoughts and desires and fill me with a loving concern for my neighbor and a desire to see him/her prosper. Fill me with Your Spirit that I may keep Your commands. Amen.

A Prayer against Suicidal Thoughts

Lord Jesus, You have commanded us that we shall not murder. Yet, I sometimes have thoughts to murder myself through suicide. These thoughts take advantage of the misfortune in my life. They promise me an easy way out and relief from my anguish. Lord, protect me from these lies of demons. Expose their malicious plans and shed light on their schemes. For they come only to destroy. Their promises are empty. Lord, help my unbelief and give me a true and active faith so that I can keep myself from harm. Amen.

My Prayer for Taking Thoughts Captive

Lord, I pray that You would help me take every thought captive and think about whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). I want to have a positive mind and life, honoring You in my thoughts. Help me to discipline my thought life with all my heart. Help me to believe Your truth on a daily basis. I want Your truth to be my final authority. I give You permission to show me the strongholds in my life. I need Your Spirit’s help and ask You to break these destructive strongholds by Your divine power (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). I cannot do it myself, and I acknowledge my dependence on You. I need You to show me the lies I believe. You can break the power of the lies in my life.

Your Word is truth (John 17:17). It has power, and it judges my thoughts and attitudes (Hebrews 4:12). Expose the lies and show me where my thinking is not lining up with Your divine truth. [If there is a specific lie you have believed that you are aware of, confess it by name to the Lord: i.e. “Lord, forgive me for believing that I am a failure. Forgive me for believing You don’t love me or care about me.”] I repent of ways of seeing my life that are contrary to Your Word. Help me to be disciplined like the Apostle Paul who lived in such a way as not to be disqualified (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). He went into strict training for You because he wanted to win. Help me to learn to say, “No” to the attacks and fiery darts of the enemy and say, “Yes” to Your way of victory, peace, and joy.

p style=”padding-left: 40px;”>“I love you, LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold… Praise be to the LORD, my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me… Part your heavens, LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, so that they smoke. Send forth lightning and scatter the enemies; shoot your arrows and rout them. Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me and rescue me
from the mighty waters, from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful. I will sing a new song to you, O God; on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you, to the One who gives victory to kings… Blessed are the people of whom this is true; blessed are the people whose God is the LORD” (Psalm 18:1-2, 144:1-2, 5-10, 15). In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Prayer for When You’re Dealing with Negative People

Father God in the name of Jesus, I come before you right now to lift up [name the negative person]. Lord I know you see all things and I ask that you come and see about this unfortunate situation. It’s wearing me down to be in the same space with constant negativity. This person speaks against my dreams, doubts my desires and it is very difficult to handle. Now God, can you step into an out-of-control challenge? Work through whatever issue is in them, and then God, if it’s me, move me out of my own way. I thank you for your grace, mercy and favor. I thank you for working out my flaws and making me into the woman that you have called me to be. Help me to stay positive. Help me to become more optimistic. Thank you for showing me who I don’t want to be. Thank you for clarifying who I need to be and how I can be a better encourager of others. Lord, send me light in the way of good people who see the best in me and want the best for me. Send me positive, like-minded people. Help me to resolve this issue between the pessimist in my house, circle, or family. Begin the pruning process right now. Get rid of every dead thing that means me no good. Your word says, “Bad company corrupts good character.” So Lord, I ask that you remove all of those who are against me. Release into my life right now a seasoned mentor\rolemodel\coach\sponsor\covering that would genuinely build me up and support me. Then, show me how to pay it forward. In Jesus’ Name. Amen

A Prayer against Trusting Evil Thoughts

Loving God, through the cross of Your Son, Jesus, You have given all men a new heart, mind, and soul. I am indeed a new creation but still wrestle with the flesh in thought, word, and deed. Lord, it is written that it is foolish for a man to trust his thoughts. Yet through You, we obtain wisdom to discern between good and evil. Thus, I pray that You would give me this spirit of wisdom and discernment. Help me to know what thoughts are from the pit, that I might take them captive and make them obedient to You through Christ, my Lord. Amen.

Prayer Against Evil Thoughts #1

Almighty and merciful God, look favorably upon my prayer and free my heart from temptation to evil thoughts, that I may deserve to be accounted a worthy dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Shed upon my heart the brightness of Thy grace, that I may ever think thoughts worthy of Thy Divine Majesty and that are pleasing to Thee, and ever sincerely love Thee, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer Against Evil Thoughts #2

O Master, Lord my God, in Whose hands are my lots, help me according to Thy mercy and do not allow me to be destroyed with my iniquities; nor permit me by my will to follow the desires of my flesh against my spirit.

I was fashioned by Thee. Do not forsake the works of Thy hands. Turn not Thy face, have pity, do not despise me, neither forsake me, O Lord, for I am weak; and it is to Thee, my protecting God, that I have come for refuge.

Heal my soul, I have sinned against Thee. Save me for the sake of Thy mercy, for upon Thee have I cast myself from my very youth. May those who war against me be put to shame, and may those who seek to separate me from Thee through immodest acts, unseemly thoughts, and unprofitable recollections be turned back.

Chase far from me every filthiness that is the superabundance of evil. For Thou alone art holy; Thou alone art mighty; Thou alone art immortal — having unfathomable power against all things. And it is through Thee that every power is given against the Devil and his forces.

Unto Thee is due all glory, honor, and worship, to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.

Amen.

A Prayer to Turn Bad Thoughts into Good Thoughts

Father, many wicked things are expressed in my mind. Although I do not verbally make them known to the world, they have their way in my mind. Yet, You are a God of redemption. What we mean for evil, You have the power to use for good. Take captive the negativity that pours forth from my heart and into my mind. Turn them on their head Lord, so that they serve You rather than evil. Use them for the good of Your kingdom. Amen.

A Prayer against Negativity

Faithful God, a negative person is like a loud, clanging cymbal. Nobody wants to be around him/her and he/she grates upon everyone. I fear that I am becoming this person, as all my thoughts lead to despair. I am unable to see the good in anything. All my conversations turn for the worst as I see all things cynically and hopeless. Lord, I do not want to be one who lives as if there is no hope. Therefore, take this negative heart and fix it. Help me to see the good in this world that comes about from Your grace and mercy. Graciously heal my mind so that I am not consumed by negativity. Amen.

Break the chain of negative thoughts

Oh Prince of Peace, embrace me with your tranquility and love so that my mind can be at ease.

Break every chain of negative thoughts as I speak prosperity and positivity into my life, for life and death are in the power of the tongue.

Therefore, I declare and decree that every  stronghold in my life, produced by negative thought patterns, is broken in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
