Muhammad According to Islamic doctrine, he was a prophet, sent to present and confirm the monotheistic teachings preached previously by Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and other prophets. He is viewed as the final prophet of God in all the main branches of Islam, though some modern denominations diverge from this belief. Muhammad united Arabia into a single Muslim polity, with the Quran as well as his teachings and practices forming the basis of Islamic religious belief.

Du’a for good in this world and in the Hereafter

Narrated Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) used to say, “O Allah! Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good and save us from the torment of the Fire (of Hell).” (2:201) (Bukhari)

The du’a is: Rabbana atina fi’ddunya hasanatan wa fi’l Akhirati hasanatan wa qina‘adhab an-nar

Du’a after Adhan

Narrated Hadrat Jabir bin ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said, “Whoever, after listening to the Adhan (for the prayer) says, ‘O Allah, Lord of this complete call and of this prayer, which is going to be established! Give Prophet Muhammad the Intercession and the Pre-Eminence and raise him to the Station of Praise and Glory which You have promised him,’ will be granted my intercession on the Day of Resurrection.” (Bukhari)

The du’a is:
Allahumma Rabba hadhihi’d-da’watittammah wassalati’l qaimah Ati Sayyidina Muhammad-an il-Wasilata wa’l Fadilata wab’ath-hu Maqam-an Mahmud alladhi wa-‘adtahu.

Du’a in Salah

Narrated Sayyidina Abu Bakr As-S iddiq (may Allah be pleased with him): I asked Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) to teach me a good invocation in the prayer.

He told me to say, “Allahumma inni zalamtu nafsi zulman kathiran wala yaghfiru’dh-dhunuba illa Anta faghfirli maghfiratan min ‘indika, wa’r-hamni innaka Anta’l Ghafur u’r Rahim

(O Allah! I have done great injustice to myself and none except You forgives sins, so please forgive me and be Merciful to me as You are the Forgiver, the Most Merciful).” (Bukhari)

Du’a after Salah

Hadrat Mu’adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) caught his hand and said: Mu’adh, by Allah, I love you and advise you that you should not forget supplicating to Allah after every fard (obligatory) salah: ‘O Allah! Help me in remembering You, and thanking You and worshipping You in the best possible way’. (Abu Dawud and an-Nasai)

The supplication is: Allahumma a’inni ‘ala Dhikrika wa Shukrika wa husni ‘lbadatik.

Seeking Refuge in Allah (The Glorified and The Exalted)

Narrated Hadrat Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him): Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) used to invoke Allah as follows:

“Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min ‘adhabi’l Qabr, wa min ‘adhabin-nar, wa min fitnati’l mahya wa’l mamat, wa min fitnati’l masih i’d-dajjal.

(O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the punishment in the grave and from the punishment in the Hell-fire and from the afflictions of life and death, and from the afflictions of the anti-Christ).” (Bukhari)

Du’a at the time of difficulty

Narrated Hadrat Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) used to say at the time of difficulty,

La ilaha Illallah u’l ‘Alim u’l Halim
La ilaha Illallahu Rabb u’l ‘Arsh i’l ‘Azim
La ilaha Illallahu Rabb u’s Samawati wa Rabb u’l Ardi
wa Rabb u’l ‘Arsh i’l-Karim. (Bukhari)

The meaning of this invocation is:

None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the All-Knowing, the Most Forbearing.
None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the Lord of the Tremendous Throne.
None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the Lord of the Heavens and the Lord of the Earth and the Lord of the Honourable Throne.

Du’a on Sneezing

Hadrat Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: When any one of you sneezes he should say: “Al-Hamdu Lillah” (All Praise be to Allah) and his brother or friend (who listens) should respond by saying, “Yarhamukallah” (may Allah have mercy on you); and then the person sneezing should reciprocate by saying, ‘Yahdikumullahu wa yuslih balakum (may Allah guide you and improve your condition). (Bukhari)

Du’a while Eating and Drinking

Hadrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said: Allah is pleased with His servant who says: “Al-Hamdu Lillah” (all Praise is for Allah) while taking a morsel of food and while drinking. (Muslim)

Du’a after a meal

Hadrat Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) after finishing the meal, used to recite the following prayer: “Al-Hamdu Lillahilladhi at’amana wa saqana waja’alana min al-Muslimin” (“All praise is for Allah Who fed us, provided us to drink, and made us Muslims”). (Muslim).

Du’a at the dispersal of a gathering

Hadrat Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that towards the closing days of his life, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) when he was about to leave a gathering, used to supplicate as follows:

SubhanakAllahumma wa bi Hamdika
Ash-hadu an la llaha illa Anta
Astaghfiruka wa atubu Ilayka”.

(O Allah! You are the Most Holy and all Praise is for You.
I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except You.
I ask for Your forgiveness and turn in repentance to You.)

A Companion asked him, ‘O Messenger of Allah, you are now saying such words which you did not say before.’ He said: “these words are an expiation of that which goes on in a gathering.” (Abu Dawud)

Du’a on going to bed

Narrated Sayyidatina ‘Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Whenever Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over them after reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times. (Bukhari)

Du’a for sleeping and waking up

Narrated Hadrat Juhayfa (may Allah be pleased with him): When Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) went to bed, he used to say, “Allahumma bismika ahya wa amutu.” (“O Allah, in Your Name I live and die!”). And when he got up in the mornings he used to say, “Alhamdu Lillahilladhi ahyana ba’da ma amatana wa ilayhi’n-nushur.” (“All praise be to Allah Who has given us life after He caused us to die; and unto Him is the Resurrection”). (Bukhari)

Du’a before mating

Narrated Hadrat Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) said, ‘If anyone of you, before having sexual intercourse with his wife says:

“Bismillah Allahumma jannibnash-shaytan wa jannibi’sh-shaytana ma razaqtana”, and if it is destined that they should have a child, then satan will never be able to harm him.’ (Bukhari)

The meaning of this supplication is: “In the Name of Allah! O Allah! Protect me from satan and protect what You bestow upon us (i.e. the offspring) from satan.”

Du’a before entering the washroom

Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that when Allah’s Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) entered the privy, he used to say, “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from male and female devils.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

The supplication is: Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min al khubuthi wa’l khabaitha.

Du’a on coming out of the washroom

Hadrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that when Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) came out of the privy, he said, “Praise be to Allah Who has removed harm from me and kept me in good health.” (Ibn Majah)

The supplication is: Al-hamdu lillahilladhi adh-haba ‘annil adha wa ‘afani.

Du’a at the time of distress

“Has -bi -yal-laa-hu wa ni’- mal wa-keel”.
Allah (SWT) is sufficient for me and He is the Best Helper.

Du’a in thankfulness

“Yaa rabbil lakal”hamdu kama yanbaghii lijalaali wajhika, wa’aziimi sultaanik.”
O my Lord, all praises be to You as it should be due to Your Might and the Greatness of Your Power.

Du’a in appreciation of other’s kindness

“Jazaakallaahu khairaa.”
May Allah (SWT) return your kindness.

Du’a for parents

“Rabbighfir lii wa liwaalidayya wa lilmu”miniina yauma yaquumul’hisaab, Rabbirhamhumaa kamaa rabbayaanii shaghiiraa.”
O Lord, forgive me, my parents and Muslims in the Hereafter. O Lord, show mercy on them as they have nourished me when I was young.

Du’a before studying

“Allaahumma infa’nii bimaa ‘allamtanii wa’allimnii maa yanfa’unii.”
O my Lord, make useful for me what you hath thought me and teach me knowledge that will be useful to me.

Du’a for knowledge

“Rabbi Zid-Nee ‘iL-Maa”
My Lord, increase me in Knowledge.

While building new house

According to the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) a person who builds a new house should sacrifice a healthy sheep and distribute its meat among the poor and needy and offer this

“ALLA-HOOMMAR-HAM ANNI MARADATAL JINNE VAL-INSE VASHSYATEENA WA BARIK LEE FEE BENAA’EE”
Oh Allah keeps me away from rebellious jins and men and the devils and
bless me in this house of mine.

If one recites this prayer then God will keep away the rebel devils, Jins and humans from him and safeguard him from their mischief and make his house lucky for him.
