For removal of Poverty and Worries

A reliable Tradition from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) states that a person who is severely afflicted with poverty should recite:

لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ‎

Transliteration: lā ḥawla wa-lā quwwata ʾillā bi-llāhⁱ

Translation: There is no power nor strength except by God.

A longer version is

لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلْعَظِيمِ‎

Transliteration: lā ḥawla wa-lā quwwata ʾillā bi-llāhi l-ʿaliyyi l-aẓīmⁱ

Translation: There is no power nor strength except in God, the Lofty, the Great.

These words – ‘There is neither strength nor power save in God’ – have the striking effect of helping one to accomplish difficult work, bear fatigue, and endure fear or dreadful experience. For according to a hadith related by Ibn Abil-Dunya, the Messenger of God said, ‘For whoever says, “There is neither strength nor power save in God” one hundred times, no day shall be afflicted by poverty.”

Dua when in debt

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبْعِ ، وَرَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ ، رَبَّـنَا وَرَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ ، فَالِقَ الْحَبِّ وَالنَّوَى ، وَمُنَزِّلَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَالإِنْجِيلِ وَالْفُرْقَانِ ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الأَوَّلُ فَلَيْسَ قَبْلَكَ شَيْءٌ ، وَأَنْتَ الآخِرُ فَلَيْسَ بَعْدَكَ شَيْءٌ ، وَأَنْتَ الظَّاهِرُ فَلَيْسَ فَوْقَكَ شَيْءٌ ، وَأَنْتَ الْبَاطِنُ فَلَيْسَ دُونَكَ شَيْءٌ ، إِقْضِ عَنَّا الدَّيْنَ وَأَغْنِنَا مِنَ الْفَقْرِ

Transliteration: Allaa-humma rab-bas-samaa-waat-is-sab‛i, wa rabbal-‛arshil-‛aẓeem, rab-banaa wa rab-ba kul-li shay’, faaliq-al-ḥabbi wan-na-waaa, wa mu-naz-zil-at-tau-raati wal-injeeli wal-fur-qaan, a‛oodhu bika min shar-ri kul-li shay’-in anta aakhi-dhun bi naa-ṣiyatih

allaa-humma ant-al-aoo-walu fa laysa qab-laka shay’, wa ant-al-aakhiru fa laysa ba‛daka shay’, wa ant-aẓ-ẓaa-hiru fa laysa fau-qaka shay’, wa ant-al-baa-ṭinu fa laysa doonaka shay’, iqḍi ‛an-nad-dayna wa aghni-naa mi-nal-faqr

Translation: O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and the exalted throne, our Lord and the Lord of all things, Splitter of the seed and the date stone, Revealer of the Tawrah, the Injeel and the Furqan, I seek refuge with You from the evil of all things You shall seize by the forelock (i.e. You have total mastery over).

O Allah, You are The First so there is nothing before You and You are The Last so there is nothing after You. You are Ath-thahir so there is nothing above You and You are Al-Batin so there is nothing closer than You, settle our debt for us and spare us from poverty.

For increase of Sustenance

Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) taught the following Dua for increasing sustenance to Ahle Saffah.

اَللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيْمِ عَنَّا الدَّيْنَ وَ أَغْنِنَا مِنَ الْفَقْرِ

Transliteration: Allaahumma rabbas samaawaatis sab-e’ wa rabbal a’rshil a’zeeme a’nnad dayna wa aghnenaa menal faqre.

Translation: O Allah! The Lord of seven heavens. The Lord of great throne (authority), defray our debts and free us from poverty.

For increase in sustenance #1

The following Dua is recommended to be recited after morning prayer for increase in sustenance. It is well experienced as narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib.

In the name God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

O’ God! Save my face by granting me prosperity and destroy not my prestige by reducing me to poverty so that I may have to seek my sustenance from those who seek (the same) from Thee, or I may look forward for the kindness to Thy evil Creatures; and consequently I may indulge in praise of those who may give and dispraise those who refused, though (indeed) Thou alone art responsible of all for grant or refusal. Verily Thou art All-Powerful over everything.
