Joshua’s Prayer

We have collected Joshua’s Prayer to use in request to God. May these prayers for safety bring you comfort and peace of mind. May these prayers for strength encourage your spirit and strengthen your faith.

Joshua or Jehoshua (יְהוֹשֻׁעַ‎ Yəhōšūaʿ) functioned as Moses’ assistant in the books of Exodus and Numbers, and later succeeded Moses as leader of the Israelite tribes in the Hebrew Bible‘s Book of Joshua. His name was Hoshea (הוֹשֵׁעַ‎,  Hōšēaʿ) the son of Nun, of the tribe of Ephraim, but Moses called him “Joshua”, the name by which he is commonly known in English. According to the Bible, he was born in Egypt prior to the Exodus.

Have not I commanded you? Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. Be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. — Joshua 1:9

Five kings had gathered together to make war against Joshua and his mighty men at a place called Gibeon and the Lord said unto Joshua,

Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee. (Joshua 10:8)

As the battle was being won by Israel and as the enemy fled, God cast down great hailstones on them from heaven, which killed more than had been killed in the battle. Joshua then prayed for something that is inconceivable to the average person.

Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.” (Joshua 10:12)

God’s Answer to Joshua

Joshua 10:13-14

13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.”
